The Department of Biochemistry (DBQ) at the Chemistry Institute of University of São Paulo invites applications for two full-time tenure-track assistant professor faculty positions. DBQ engages in cutting-edge fundamental and applied biochemistry and molecular biology research, and aims to provide world-class education.

Applications are welcome from candidates whose expertise complements and synergizes with any of the wide range of biochemistry and molecular biology research areas in the department, and who promote interdisciplinary collaborations. The successful candidate is expected to develop a vibrant, externally funded research program, to contribute to teaching and mentoring, and to promote an inclusive departmental and campus climate.
Financial support for research in the state of São Paulo comes from a variety of sources, including FAPESP (https://fapesp.br/en ), the world-renowned state funding agency. The department hosts a motivated and talented student body that includes about 150 graduate students, about 50 post-doctoral fellows, and many undergraduate research students. São Paulo, Brazil´s largest city, is a diverse and cosmopolitan metropolis, with world-class infrastructure and services and vibrant arts, entertainment, and gastronomy scenes.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree. The position requires commitment to teaching and ability to conduct independent research. The entry-level monthly salary (MS3 level) is R$ 14,761.02 (approximately USD 2,800 as of April, 2024) plus benefits.

FAPESP Postdoctoral Position on in situ Cryo-Electron Tomography
With the Aquilos 2 cryo-FIB soon available at our Institute (link), allow me to briefly advertise a fellowship opportunity in my lab, open to candidates of any nationality:
This project, to be developed at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC), University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil, aims to study the in situ high-resolution structure of mitochondrial filamentous enzymes involved in tumor metabolic adaptation and their effects on organelle ultrastructure and morphology upon filamentation.
This research will extend Adamoski et al.'s 2023 paper (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41594-023-01118-0), which was recently highlighted in the celebration of NSMB’s 30th anniversary (https://doi.org/10.1038/s41594-024-01248-z).
Now we focus on more profound questions with cutting-edge methodologies, such as correlative light-electron microscopy (CLEM), cryo-electron tomography in lamella (cryo-ET), and expansion microscopy (ExM), that can also be applied to other proteins in the lab.

O projeto faz parte do Processo 2022/05750-7, Projeto Geração FAPESP, intitulado “Mecanismos subjacentes da doença cardiovascular no
diabetes: o papel do colágeno glicado”, sob orientação do Prof Renato Simões Gaspar (https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Renato-Gaspar-2).
A ideia é que o (a) aluno (a) estude artérias de pacientes e camundongos diabéticos para entender o papel do colágeno glicado na formação do trombo e doenças cardiovasculares. Para tanto, espera-se que o (a) aluno (a), ao final do doutoramento, seja capaz de realizar diversos ensaios de biologia molecular, bem como ensaios funcionais in
vivo e ex vivo. A depender da pessoa escolhida, há a possibilidade de organizarmos um estágio no exterior com algum colaborador externo. Especificamente, busca-se alguém motivado e com uma boa iniciação científica.
